All Partners of the NSELP consortium have close relationships with the national Bar Association of their country. They can therefore liaise with their Bar Associations about the role of the Advanced LLM in Energy Law in the permanent education of practicing lawyers.

The complete programme lasts for two years and a programme starts by mid September or October every even year. The specific dates for each round are available on the website. The four two-week modules take place during the first academic year and the first half of the second academic year. After this, students will have until the end of the second academic year to finish their Master’s thesis. A more detailed overview and the specific dates of the current teaching round can be found in the Programme Overview.
As an executive master, the programme is designed in such a way that legal professionals can complete the programme without spending large amounts of time away from their job. Over the course of the two-year programme, participants have to be at the location of the four modules for two weeks each module (most days from 9 am to 4 pm). Outside these modules, the programme takes on a distance learning form, where students can study and work at home and communicate with lecturers online or, if required, via phone. During the two years that the programme runs students have to complete the 90 ECTS programme. For more information on the study load please see the Timeline and assessment page.
Although the modules are highly interconnected, and the Admission Board advises those interested to follow the complete programme, there is a possibility to join separate modules. The study load of an individual module is 15 ECTS. If you do not wish to complete the entire programme, please indicate which module(s) you wish to follow on your application form.
The Advanced LLM in Energy Law is officially accredited by the Dutch-Flemish Accreditation Organisation (NVAO). The programme is accredited as a joint LLM degree, entitling the Universities of Aberdeen, Copenhagen, Groningen, and Oslo to jointly grant participants the LLM title upon successful completion of the programme. Thus, participants receive their LLM from the consortium of universities, rather than a separate degree from each university.
Yes, you can apply for the Advanced LLM in Energy Law. It is not mandatory to have a degree in law to be admitted to the programme. The programme is designed for participants with professional legal experience in the energy sector. This can also be obtained without a degree in law. Please see the Admission criteria for more details.
The tuition fee for the full programme is € 28,000 (or € 14,000 per year). The course fee for individual modules is € 8,000.
*Please note that in case of a study delay an extra fee of €800,- per month is charged.
During each module, the teaching materials, site visits, a welcome dinner, a closing dinner, lunches, and coffee breaks are included in the tuition fee. Additional costs for the participant will include travelling to the university where the module will take place, accommodation costs, and dinners. Please also refer to Costs.
In most cases the employers of our students pay for their education.
Even though none of the partner universities offer scholarships which are applicable to the Advanced LLM in Energy Law, it is possible that there are different funding opportunities. We encourage students to search through different media. For example, the embassy or cultural institute of the country you would like to study in might offer grants. Also, national databases, both online and offline, will include many specific grants which might be applicable to the Advanced LLM in Energy Law. Most private funding parties are best found in grant books which, for example, can be found at universities.
The International Bar Association Section on Energy, Environment, Natural Resources and Infrastructure Law (SEERIL), together with the Academic Advisory Group (AAG) offers a scholarship every year. The application deadline is usually in March.
The host universities of the each of the modules will offer information regarding rooms at a reasonable price, in either hotels, hostels, Airbnb options, or on their campus. Depending on the country and the location of accommodation, the rates will vary between considerably for the thirteen nights per module. Participants are free to arrange accommodation on their own accord. Please refer to costs.
The participants are legal professionals working in the field of energy law and wishing to specialize or further acquire knowledge of energy law. The majority of the participants studied law. The participants have come from all over the world (e.g. Brazil, Chile, Ghana, Iceland, Mexico, Mozambique, the Netherlands, Norway, the United States).

The deadline for application is 1 June each even year for the full programme or up to two months prior to the start date of the module you wish to attend (whether you wish to follow only a few modules or all modules but did not catch the start of the programme). There is no application fee for the Advanced LLM in Energy Law.
